My Artistic Process

Every photographer's approach is different, so here is a short description of how I complete each session.

Capturing the Brief

CTA | Artistic Impact

As an artist, I appreciate the wonder of creating beautiful images. As an individual, I understand that each client's images are meant to serve a purpose.

Because of this, I find it important to converse with each new client in order to understand the details behind their vision. These details might include questions such as; Where will this image be placed? What is motivating you to book your session? What emotions do you wish to be conveyed through your images? And so on.

Through our conversation, I will become best equipped to execute your vision by providing my experienced suggestions. Building on your idea until a solid plan is in sight. That way you can rest assured that your investment of both your time and trust in me will not only yield a few images, but leave you feeling accomplished in your purposes.

On - Set

Flexible | Efficient

As a working photographer of seven years, when on set I utilize my skillset to execute t through:

Lighting.

With experience in studio lighting, natural light situations, and modifiers, I have the confidence to make the lighting work for your images. This leads to a greater variety of possible shots, each one modified for your needs.

Directing.

Through my work with hundreds of past clients, I have developed the ability to direct you comfortably throughout the session. With quick reflexes and analyzation skills, I can recognize the 'shot' and lean in that direction; steering you along with me as we work together for your vision. Don't worry if you have no experience posing, I can fill a whole session with assisted pose ideas if needed. My confidence in my abilities - founded on my experience and education - works to make our shoot smooth and efficient, while leaving room for improvisation.

Imagery.

Composition is a key part of getting a great shot. Through my training in traditional and photographic art styles, I have developed the ability to notice everything in an image. This skill set allows me to minimize distractions and maximize your desired focus in-camera, all the while making sure I maintain a flattering angle.

After the Shoot

Small Batch | Service Oriented

Once a shoot is completed, I do an initial run-through of the images taken and remove any out-of-focus or compositionally weak shots. When that process is completed, I take the remaining images and after completing basic edits, walk through them with you. We select the shots that you would like me to edit and deliver, as well as discuss the direction to take the editing in.

I will be realistic about what can and cannot be done with editing. If you have no editing preferences, I will inform you what I think will best serve your images.  A reasonable timeline for completion will be agreed upon, and then it's off to the races.

Retouching

Custom Coloring | Detailed Retouch

During the editing process, each photo first undergoes a professional grade retouching process to remove stray hairs, blemishes, distracting objects, and anything that might pull away from the focus of the image.

Next, I create a tailor-made color grading system for each client that best fits the images from their session. Unlike many photographers, I don't apply a generic filter that sits over the top of the image. Instead, I target specific areas, allowing the colors to sink into those areas, blending in naturally. By relying on color theory, this approach ensures a natural result, with every tone carefully enhanced separately from each other.
